As a child I would spend days watching the amazing manoeuvres of starling. This video captures some of the feeling of wonder I experienced.

There aren't as many starlings here in the Valleys as I remember in the City. So maybe they prefer living near lots of people, I don't know.
They are great mimics, too. Many a time I've had quite an interesting whistling conversation with a starling

I forget where I heard it....
but.....
'A host of mad, glad starlings,
bossy and
glossy....'
sums them up , don't you think ?
And I think their collective noun is a 'murmeration'...
Cor...
(or should I say 'caawwk !)

I'll take caawwk over murmeration

don't know what they are called in Portoguese. But I don't know of any other bird that creates big clouds in the sky. So big that you can feel a gash of wind when you stand under them.
when are you back home?-

The Starlings are in my back garden!
Every night at dusk, flock after flock fly over low, you can hear their wings. They head for a favourite roosting spot...and actually do that glorious swarming together a mile or so away...over the waves before snuggling under shelter and sleeping.-

Im missing the sight

Yep! Like those above we've plenty of starlings! Way too many, in fact! They spend their time in our cow shed feeding then fly out en masse whenever I enter! A sight and sound not to be missed. Though I can't help but wish they'd not poop!

where is that? I really want to have my kids see it
bunnybunbunbun

There are still lots of them out there because apparently my friend Nick and my friend Helen were on the pier at Brighton one evening just when they were all coming in to land and they said it was amazing but also very noisy and after the starlings had done their wafty cloudy thing they all landed under the peir to go to sleep and it felt like they were going to crash into them but they didn't so I reckon that is where you should go if you like them :¬)
