Have You Tried England?

Trying to settle in England with a family? Welcome to a new civilisation, a new (or very old in fact) ways of doing things, and lots of frustration. Yet, it's all worth it in the end, if you ever reach the end and especially if you can afford it, because if you thought you knew what expensive meant, you have not tried London yet. This blog is my personal experience settling here, and I hope you, the new settler, will find at least some of it interesting if not useful.

In the booklet I mentioned earlier there is a section about alcohol. It says:

If you are 16 or 17 years old you can drink beer, wine or cider at the table mean in a pub or restaurant if bought by an adult

A few bullet points later it continues

It’s illegal to buy alcohol for someone who’s not 18.

What am I missing ?

Is all right - note you can't buy alcohol for someone who is not 18 but you can buy it for yourself and give a sip to a 16 or 17 years old. It's not buying - it's sharing. Yeah, that's how it works, darling.
