A teenager who micro-waved a six-weeks-old kitten was banned from keeping animals for seven years. On the other hand, people who kill their kids (or other kids) cannot be banned from having new kids, and every call for introducing such measures always end up with strong objection from human right activists.
Protecting cats seems to be much higher on the agenda then protecting kids. Strange place this is.

I don't think they were so cruel to children like you supposesuggest, they simply ignored them, or, say, they've just let them work on the fields for nothing, as soon as they could walk...
Perhaps because cats are more deserving of it than kids?
