The life of a girl of 15 working as a prostitute was exposed when a suspicious teacher who searched her bag found condoms and the name card of her agency and alerted police.
Two legal issues are yet to be resolved before any act can take place:
1. Should the crown sue the teacher for abusing her power and conducting an unauthorized search?
2. Can help services ‘rescue’ the girl, as evidence was obtained illegally, and therefore, by law inadmissible.

I know you're playing Devils Advocate but do you think this world is so black and whiter that when you work in these areas like I have that you don't have to move into the grey areas sometimes to get the job done?
I'd rather be the parent of a teenage girl who's had her handbag searched by a teacher than the parent of a teenage girl who has been found dead in a hotel pumped full of drugs because a john has gone psycho on her. The trouble is, most of the parents I've encountered couldn't give a shit and are too busy either treating their child like a fashion accesory to their lifestyle or looking for the next fix for themselves...
What about decent people who tried to stop a vandal or a crime and got prosecuted?
What about a policeman that get suspended for stopping a violent drunk man?
What about proven murderers who get acquitted for legal technicalities?
And serial rapists that get jail holidays so they get used to normal life?
I don't need to play Devil’s Advocate. Our entire society does it for me?

Would you want to give me specific examples of the above rather than the usual generalisations?
Do you have kids of your own or have you ever worked with kids in an environment where they are at constant risk from drug dealers, gangs and people with distasteful intent?...
If not, then I suggest you get some experience under your belt before pintificating on the semantics of liberty to somebody who's seen the rough side. The Police are largely corrupt, the law isn't perfect but it's all we've got, 'decent people' should leave it to the professionals or they'll put themselves and others at risk', and the Prison Service has been failing in its duties for years due to bad management, underfunding, bad training, and mis management.
All of these things can be changed by positive action if you have the will and commitment to seek reform through legal protest. Of course, you can't do that if you spend all your time standing on a soapbox in Blogland. Go on... Sleeves up and get stuck in. The country needs changing. I'm sure you're the man for the job...

To back up his claim, Kent police released details of some recent cases. According to the force, a burglar with 100 previous offences received a suspended sentence and then committed another one. Last week a man failed to appear in court having been given bail while awaiting sentence for 255 thefts from motor vehicles; police arrested him, and he was granted bail again - only to fail to show up at the time the court had ordered.
I wonder if it is enough specific examples of the above?

The links don't really tell us much except that a teacher who is trying to forge a career as a journalist ignored NUJ rulings on ethics, and a woman who should have called the Police didn't and got herself in hot water.
The paragraph on the Police stats just proves my point that the system of punishment and imprisonment is in dire need of reform along with the way that it deals with the reform of offenders.
As I said originally, the teacher did the right thing. Sometimes you have to bend or break the rules in order to set a precedent and as history shows us, it is often the case that it is done at great personal cost.

Pro The teacher should be done for an illegal search and the girl should be helped too. If the law doesn't allow this, then the law is wrong.

Laws cannot be right or wrong as they are the benchmark for being right or wrong. It may not support what we believe should be right. But this is subjective.
This is the beauty of religious laws. For the believers they are absolute

Pro Of course laws can be wrong, you just have to have a different concept of right and wrong to the government that made the law. The Tory Poll Tax is a prime example. I don't go for absolutes - my world is a relative one.

I just can't believe the teacher is being punished for trying to do the right thing and helping out a student... Maybe by helping a child with revising for his GCSE's this could be seen as a sort of plagiarism? society is really really messed up...
