Kids in the UK

A table of young people's wellbeing in 29 European states - the EU plus Norway and Iceland - has ranked the UK 24th

The Netherlands was top while only Romania, Bulgaria, Latvia, Lithuania and Malta came lower than the UK.

Not that you can rely on surveys without full understanding how they were conducted and what they really measured. But this survey confirms my own personal experience: UK is not a good place for kids.

As a non-English I wonder if it’s something new, if it was it better in the past, or has it always been like that?

'UK is not a good place for kids,' BECAUSE....?

It may not be a good place for YOUR kids as they have been uprooted several times...they have experiences of many places...

So let's not generalise.

'UK' is such a faceless identity used by the non British...it's always...'UK', not THE UK....and never an identifiable county or city or town...

'UK' may not be good for my children, but the lovely area in which we live in the county of __________, near the beauty of _____....is an exceptional place for my children.

It is tempting to be defensive, but sadly I can see how this would be true in many areas of the UK, based on criteria such as child poverty, health and social cohesion...

Being non-British myself, I can't answer your question, of course, but these surveys usually do reflect grievances / problems. In general.

  Kids gang culture, for instance. Could it have developed in a place where kids are happy?

Surveys can be pretty informative...often fairly accurate; overly defensive people can be said to highlight survey findings...often; Whatever the findings...they are at the very least 'indicative'.

  Often surveys are faulty. It's not easy to create a meaningful survey, and analyse the validity of the results.
  So I am not sure how valid this survey is, and I don't think I am going to start looking deeply into it.
  
  The only thing I can say that the conclusion of this survey agrees with my experience of me and my family living in England. But this of course is subjective.
  
  The highest teenage pregnancy rate, for instance, is an objective measure. But some may claim that it has nothing to do with unhappiness, wellbeing, or maybe that it’s desirable

    I don't think I disagree with you about surveys...but, as I remarked, they do serve as indicators...even if tentative; refining the survey..statistically can highlight the indicators.....Depends on many variables...but these can be reduced...

I have read (in another wellbeing survey) that UK ist the best place to live if you are a dog.
