It is not about freedom of choice. There is nothing wrong with people covering their hair for modesty. But there is a problem with people covering their faces. I have this problem where I live. Because Muslims are doing what they want, they are becoming blacker and blacker. It's scary walking down the street. It is the other things that come with it. People do these things inside now and they don't dress in a way that draws attention. People need to see expressions on peoples faces because this people come from different backgrounds. I don't want this country to become Islamified just because in theory people should do be able to do what they want. People will end up being called non-muslims. This is not right that people should be told to kill themselves before developing a mind.
People are different. Alot of people have been hurt by this and you need to look after old generation.
We don't want to see people dressed in black. The more people can do what they want, the more bigger and blacker they will get. It's offensive and splitting people into Atheists and muslims instead of people of basically the same faith who practice in different directions. This is not an Islamic country.
People are being stupid and they don't see what comes with it. You get these horrible people as well who you wouldn't want to go near. We are not middle eastern!
People are being given choices they should not have infront of them that they forget the values our culture is built up from is basically the same so people are becoming weak. In a christian school you are supposed to be modest but not for your culture and ways onto the school. Try to go to a muslim country and change the rules. You will be killed. Muslims are segregating people into muslims and non muslims. Instead of to stand tall with respect, alot of people are becoming ill. They cannot practice their religeon anywhere peacefully. The fight to stop Islamification of the West is making people sick because everything they believe in is being destroyed by having to stand up and accept others to the point of giving up who they are. We don't go that far as to force people through fear to give up everything so these people can be better than them

I would just like to say that recent changes to KS3 and 4 have started to change this. It is more about skills and thinking rather than facts. The inner city school I work in is leap and bounds a head other school with regards to developing thinking skills. We take a more diverse approach in developing learning for our students and change this constantly when dealing with different students.

So in conclusion, I agree that things need to change still in many areas in science education. But some of us are already here and trying to break away from the current system...

Those that apply to me, I try. But it isn't about me, it's about you. You seem to have a desire to revolutionise the law so that it reflects the moral values of the street. Well, all good, but then there are also some moral pressures on the horizon that may twist the law into a weapon against our culture.
Believe me, child, revolution isn't the answer. Laws have to be thought through and preferably tested in unwritten form for decades before they are committed to paper.

legally, as the law stands now, you are right. But it's not the court decision that I am evaluating, the court followed the law. It's the law itself that I find hypocritical.

The definition of marriage has changed so many times. What court of law? At what period? 10 years ago in the UK it still stated man and woman, now it doesn't.

There is always a difference between 'the right thing' and 'the legal thing'. A good legal system would try to minimise the gap. A bad legal system, would forget that it's society values that should dictate the system, and not the other way around.

in some countries it makes no difference. In the UK, there are still some legal differences as far as inheritance etc are concerned.

Yet, many get married because they believe they make a statement. Some would claim it’s an empty statement.

I am looking at the same definition as the court of law would be looking at. Don't you think we have to maintain that perspective when we're evaluation the court's decision in this matter? Well, it depends what definition you are looking for: it can be contract between a man and a woman, but no more. In many places there can be more than one woman (go to Salt lake city, for instance)

I am glad that you equate yourself to a car, and I do think about an institute when talking about marriage.

So just to make sure I understand your argument, your issue is not with the moral or emotional side, but rather with financial impact?

Because if it is not about financial, should emotional damage be the realm of law? You say that polygamy is ok if all side agree? But isn’t that a moral discussion rather than a legal one? After all, what about having a few boyfriends? Is this also a matter of law?

In modern UK, people are innocent unless proven guilty, but this does not mean that courts should try to prove everyone guilty, before we declare them innocent.

The "institute" of marriage??? Or institution? Anyway, look up the defintion of marriage. To my knowledge it is a contract between two parties to the exclusion of other parties. If you wish to enter into multiple contracts, choose their nature carefully before you commit yourself. It's like you enter into a contract of sale of your car... with three different parties. It's obviously dishonest because you know from the outset you cannot deliver on all those three contracts as you only have one car.
I think this isn't abuot lifestyle but the logistics of contractual relationships. Marriage is nothing more than that anyway, but hey! the good news is it can be legally terminated before you commit yourself to the next one.

Often I agree with you. But not in this case. This was not a lifestyle choice it was a series of frauds perpetrated against men who had no idea they were being 'married' by someone who was not free to make that legal choice.

Polygamy which is what I believe you were supporting is a different kettle of fish. Fair enough if all parties are in agreement, but for anyone to enter into a contract which is what marriage is - fraudulently is not acceptable in my opinion.

This woman led her 'partners' to make financial and emotional commitments and involved their families and caused emotional and financial damage and broke very clear laws in doing so.

My feeling is that had this been a man in court he would have received a far more severe punishment.

As for courts not interfering with how we choose to live - that is the entire purpose of courts. Some people choose to live by defrauding and harming those around them. They should not be given the green light to do so.

you still have a probelm of what do you need to communicate. 25 years ago, you could hide sex, and kids would have little exposure to it. Now you can't not be exposed to it, so the communication should be different.

I actually said 25 years ago that teaching sex education in mixed classes was wrong and would led to girls being pressured by boys AND the girls who were more adventurous to experiment and I wasn't a lone voice! So what a previous generation was too timid to do [in case they got a 'rep' or 'in trouble'] These young girls have been pressured to conform to. The whole ethos is 'they are going to do it anyway lets make it safe! but what comes over to the kids is ' its fun why arent you doing it? ' One of my girls was actually given strawberry flavoured condoms handed out at college [what is that telling her to do!] and shes autisic!
Perhaps Im oldfashioned or just passed it but I believed sex was for someone you cared for and was a bit special.
Now the kids prove their love by giving babies!
